Have you heard about the White House’s plan to sell off the U.S. Postal Service (USPS)?
Sounds crazy, right? But it’s true. *

A corporate post office would be bad for all of us. It could mean you don’t get your mail every
day—maybe only every third day—even for critical deliveries like prescription medicines. You
could pay a lot more, too, especially for mail coming to or from rural areas. Universal delivery to
every address in the country? Likely gone.

Not only that, but hundreds of thousands of well-paying union jobs—along with health care,
pensions and other benefits—would likely be replaced with low-paying, “gig economy,”
independent contractors.

Our brothers and sisters at the American Postal Workers Union and National Association
of Letter Carriers produced a new ad to spread the word about the consequences of a postal
corporate takeover—will you watch it and share it with your friends to help us tell the White
House that the U.S. Mail is Not For Sale?

We’ve seen full and partial postal privatization in Europe, and we already know what happens.
Delivery drops, especially outside of big cities. Costs go up—sometimes way up. Churches,
businesses and community organizations can’t rely on a flat rate to reach everyone.

Right now, more than 550,000 postal employees are covered by a union contract—contracts
that provide fair wages, pensions, health care, paid leave, a career path and protections from
harassment and unfair treatment. Those contracts in turn hold private delivery companies
accountable by forcing them to compete for workers.

But if corporations take over, those jobs and benefits will disappear. Good paying postal jobs
will vanish and wages and benefits will be slashed along with services. The money these jobs
bring to local communities will instead be funneled to Wall Street investors and corporate
bottom lines.

Stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who work for the USPS and with everyone who
relies on the US mail! Watch this new video and share it with your friends to stop a corporate
takeover of the United States Postal Service!
