On National Manufacturing Day, America recognizes American manufacturers and their workers who drive our economy, strengthen our national security, and give meaning to the famous phrase, ‘Made in the USA.’  The day also highlights the many new and exciting opportunities for future generations to create the next wave of world-class American products.

The largest employment increase in employment within manufacturing occurred in the Transportation Equipment sector, with an increase of 32,608 employees.  The largest decrease over the same period was recorded in Computer & Electronic Products, which shed 33,424 jobs.

In terms of manufacturing gross receipts the largest increase was also reported by the Transportation Equipment sector (+$62.3 billion) but the largest dollar decrease in receipts was recorded in petroleum & Coal Products (-$66.3 billion).

There are just three states where eight percent or more of all workers work in manufacturing.  Those states are Wisconsin (9.3 percent), Indiana (9 percent), and Iowa (8.4 percent).
