The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC)’s annual food drive is largest one-day food drive in the nation. The NALC effort is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in every part of the country. Residents put out non-perishable food donations on that day, which letter carriers collect as they deliver mail along their postal routes. The food is then taken to local food banks. The food drive has collected nearly two billion pounds of food since the national drive began in 1993.
Here in the Coulee Region three community partners come together to make this Food Drive happen.
This year (the 32nd year) of the NALC food drive falls on Saturday May 13th. The Letter Carriers (NALC), Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO, & the Great Rivers United Way join together to ask area residents to participate by donating food, volunteering to help – or both.
It’s simple to participate by making a food donation. Leave the food you intend to donate by your mailbox on Saturday morning, May 11, 2024. No glass or opened food items.
For those who’d like to get further involved the Great Rivers United Way (GRUW) is recruiting volunteer drivers, with at least one passenger each, who will use their own vehicles to collect donations ahead of local Letter Carriers in La Crosse and Onalaska.
