Mark your calendars for a fun-filled day of fishing with the kids!
With youth fishing events in several Wisconsin cities, this is the perfect opportunity to introduce youngsters to the joy of fishing and public access opportunities available in the state.
No fishing gear? No problem. The first 125 kids to register an attend will receive a fishing pole that is his or hers to keep. Plus, union volunteers will be on hand to assist with baiting, casting, and reeling in those fish!
The event is FREE and open to the public but limited to the first 125 youth (ages 2 thru 17) to register. All youth must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperon. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.

For the 13th year, the Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO (WWAFLCIO) is teaming up with the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s (USA) Boots on the Ground conservation program to host Annual Take Kids Fishing Day from 9 to noon on Saturday, June 7th Memorial Park, 3601 Park Lane Drive in La Crosse.
Each registered youngster (first 125 registered and in attendance) will receive a fishing pole that is his or hers to keep. So, register the kids, grab your camera, and get ready for a fun day at the lake!
This event is free and open to the public, but it is limited to the first 125 children aged 2-17. A parent, guardian or chaperon must accompany all participants.
Fishing poles (to keep!), bait, temporary fish tattoos, light snacks, and beverages will be provided by the WWAFLCIO. Again, Ace Hardware of La Crosse will be donating bait for the event.
Roughly 125 children and their parents attended last year’s event and over 1,000 children and their parents have attended this event in the event’s first eleven years. Since the event coincides with Wisconsin DNR’s “Free Fishing Weekend;” adults won’t need licenses to join their children and fish on the first.
“Take a kid fishing, you’ll be glad that you did,” said Mike Davis Jr, President Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO. Davis went on to note that, “by taking a kid fishing. You’ll capture their imagination.”
