Daniel P. Hanson, 71, passed away on Monday October 31, 2022, after losing a courageous battle with cancer.

Dan was retired from BCT & GM Local 22 (Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers International Union) and served on the Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO Executive Board for more than a decade.

Dan worked tirelessly for many years as the Community Services Labor Liaison to the Great Rivers United Way, serving both his community and the local labor council with zeal.

Dan Hanson

He facilitated communication between the United Way and organized labor communities, fostered strong relationships with labor unions to advance mutual impact goals and ensure successful United Way campaigns, identified opportunities for the United Way and labor to collaborate on jointly developed programs that benefit local communities, and spearheaded the annual Coulee Region Food Drive creating a partnership between local labor unions and the Great Rivers United Way.

He was born September 16, 1951. Dan married the love of his life Mona Hanson (née Polivoda) on May 22, 1971. They were married for 46 years until Mona passed (also of cancer) in 2017.

Dan is survived by his two beautiful daughters, Wendy Cantwell (Charles) of Madison, Wis., and Robyn Hanson (Joshua Ruk) of Kalamazoo, Michigan as well as two grandchildren, Tyler, and Tatum Cantwell.

The Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO donated to the American Cancer Society in Dan’s name.
