On January 17, 2018 , Tyler Tubbs was elected President of the Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO Central Labor Council. The council represents over 5,000 workers and 40 affiliated organizations from a six county area in Western Wisconsin.
Brother Tubbs was unanimously elected by the umbrella organization’s delegate body to serve a two year term.
Upon his election, Tyler Tubbs, a member of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) Division 13, stated, “It is an incredible honor to lead this Council at such a critically important time for working families. Working men and women face immense challenges, both in the workplace and in their everyday lives. Our city, state and country are continuing to struggle through a difficult economic period for working families. And during that time, we have seen workers’ wages, benefits, and safety suffer.
“It’s time all workers in Western Wisconsin raise their collective voice and say ‘enough is enough’ to policies that adversely affect working people. The Western Wisconsin workforce has work ethic, talent, and strength. And together, we will address the challenges that face us. And we will prevail.”
Delegates also elected Chris Van Alstine, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 14 and Paul Witcraft of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 519, to two of five Executive Board positions. Reelected to the other three positions on the board were Dean Rink (IAMAW 1115), Fran Hegenbarth (AFSCME Retirees 32), and Vicki Ash (AFGE 1346). Bill Rudy (ATU 519) was reelected as Vice-President and Denise Grover (IAMAW 21) was reelected as Recording Secretary. Outgoing President Bill Brockmiller was elected to the position of Financial Secretary/Treasurer. (AFSCME 2748/AFT 4999)
